Research & Planning
We kicked things off by chatting directly with people like Sarah, Mark, and Priyanka. We just let them tell us, in their own words, what really bugged them, what made them think "aha!", and what would make them say "Finally! Someone gets it!" We really listened to their feelings – words like "overwhelmed," "anxious," "ghosted," or "headache" stood out. We also asked them about how they used their phones and computers during different parts of their journey.
Then, we checked out existing reports and studies. This confirmed that the problems we heard about, like worries over ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems), not hearing back from companies (communication black holes), and unclear job descriptions, weren't just a few isolated cases; they were widespread issues. This helped us understand how big these problems actually are.
Define
By carefully analyzing all the feedback, we identified recurring patterns of behavior, specific pain points users consistently faced, and crucial unmet needs. We saw that the core issues weren't just about needing functional tools (like a resume template) but also about deeper emotional needs (like needing to feel confident and in control). This phase clearly showed us the common pattern of using phones for quick Browse and laptops for more in-depth work.
Design & Prototyping
With a solid understanding of why users were frustrated, we brainstormed solutions. Our focus was on creating features that weren't just additions, but true solutions to these human problems. We thought about how each design element could ease specific anxieties or simplify those tedious, repetitive tasks
Prototype & Test
This is the crucial next step where we'd build interactive mockups of our ideas and get them into the hands of real users. We'd watch how they use the "Career Compass" and gather their feedback to make sure it truly points them in the right direction!
